Through the Eyes Of... Cocu Liu

Through the Eyes Of... Cocu Liu

‘Through The Eyes Of’ is an impressionistic photo series that features locations around the globe as seen through the eyes of a local creator. In today’s photo essay, San Francisco-based photographer Cocu Liu guides our eye with light, creating a sense of tension between what is known and what is not known, and intensifying the mood of the moment with mysterious shadow and hidden drama.

Chasing Light

To take this photo I was actually standing on the street between where cars drove and where the cable car railway was. The harsh sunlight creates a drama scene, that moment was very memorable. This is a spot I'll absolutely revisit in the future.

I was sitting on the rooftop for this shot in downtown San Francisco. I paid attention to where the sun is and moved to areas where it casts long shadows or lays light down in fascinating ways.

For me, one of the greatest feelings in the world is to view the sunset after a busy day, very few experiences are more fulfilling and enjoyable. I always take photos, of course, but the real excitement lies in discovering a new place in the city where I live -San Francisco.

On a beautiful day, I went up to the roof top of a high-rise building in downtown San Francisco. The street scene at the high angle looks just spectacular, the sunlight before sunset highlights the bustle and hustle of San Francisco as people are commuting.
